Worcestershire Guild - Contemporary Craft Website

Showcasing the work of 60 makers

New Website and logo design for Worcestershire Guild. The Worcestershire Guild of Contemporary Craft have been promoting and supporting designer makers in and around the county since 1952. They are a multi-disciplinary contemporary craft organisation designed to promote and provide selling space for its members. The membership is diverse, made up of more than 60 makers working in metal, ceramics, textiles, printmaking, wood and glass.

The existing branding of the Guild had been with them for some time, and they were looking for a fresh, modern approach to re-launch in 2017. This also included a change of name from 'Worcestershire Guild of Craftsmen'.

The brief was:

To communicate:

  • A professional image
  • The creative talent of our members
  • That we are an approachable authority on contemporary craft within Worcestershire and the UK.

Themes for the re-branding:

  • Clean, simple, fresh
  • Fine Art Gallery look (white backgrounds, perhaps a single, bold colour)
  • Quality, handmade, contemporary craft.
  • Varied membership (where no one discipline should dominate the logo/branding)
  • Commitment to educating the public about contemporary craft.

Items to produce:

  • A new logo (ideally ‘badge’ shaped, square or circular, for easy re-production/online use)
  • New colours/style for printed materials (advertising flyers etc)
  • A new website, ideally wordpress based which will function as a gallery for members work and an advert for the Guild as a whole. Ideally it will have multiple logins, so that each member can edit their own page within the site, plus some administrator logins for news/blog pages etc. It must be mobile responsive and link to social media accounts.

Using this brief I made a proposal, initially for the rebranding project, then for designing, building and developing a website that would feature the work of all 7 disciplines and with a dedicated page to each designer/maker.

The home page design has a custom slider that selects images at random to ensure that no particular disiplne is featured when the website is opened.

The websit also has an events calendar and news section and is based on the Worpress CMS platform. Training was provided so that The Guild can update and modify pages, news, and events as required.
